Friday 16 Feb 2017 Professor Richard Pankhurst was the founder and first Director of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies of Addis Ababa University, and for ten years 16 Feb 2017 Addis Ababa (FBC) – The doyen of historians and scholars of Ethiopia, Dr. Richard Pankhurst has passed away at the age of 90.

After studying in Paris, Goulden returned to Manchester, where she met Dr. Richard Pankhurst in 1878. Richard was a lawyer who supported a number of radical causes, including women’s suffrage. Dr. Pankhurst’s writings have presented Ethiopian history, culture, and tradition not only to academics and students of history, but also to a wide spectrum of readers, both Ethiopian and non-Ethiopian.
